Drain Problems Advice
Drains are things we tend to forget about until something goes wrong. Considering that many drain stystems have been in use since Victorian times it is remarkable how effective and long lasting they have been. However, nothing lasts forever and any drain system will run into problems sooner or later.
The most common problem is a blockage, due to the fact that drain pipes carry both liquid and solid waste. Just because there is a blockage it does not mean that the drain has a structural problem. Most blockages are easily cleared and may not reoccur at that location again.
If a blockage does reoccur then it may be advisable to investigate more closely via a CCTV camera. A full survey of the drainage pipe work can be carried out and any defects identified.
Common faults and problems with drainage pipework include:-
- Cracked or broken sections of pipework.
- Open or dropped joints.
- Root ingress into the pipework.
- Sections of pipework where the 'fall' has become level.
Such problems can usually be readily rectified by excavation and repair or lining the existing pipe.
